Tree Meditation
I'm standing upright, but remain loose, the whole sole of my foot flat to the ground, keeping my feet approximately a hand's width apart. My head rests forwards upon my upright upper body. My chin is pulled in a little. Now, those inner forces begin to flow. My feet sprout roots - about one meter in width and down far enough to ensure I'm firmly rooted in the ground.
With every breath I take, I now draw the power of the earth through my feet and inside of me. I keep doing this until the earth has half-filled me with its power - and I can clearly feel it.
As I breathe out, I once again let my thoughts pass down into the roots and consciously allow excess energy to flow out. I continue this process for approximately 20 breaths, each one becoming more quiet and more deep. I now think of my spine and follow it in my thoughts from top to bottom. I turn to my head, the crown of my body. At its top - in other words, the highest point of my body - I feel as if I am touching against the sky. It is from here that, each and every time I breathe in, I draw the power of the heavens within me, into the core of my body, my stomach area.
Now, as I exhale, my thoughts follow my breath and I render up what I no longer need to the sky. This I do for some 20 breaths. Now, as I inhale, I absorb powers both from the earth and the heavens: powers which meet in the center of my body. Breathing out, I expel harmful elements both in downwards and upwards directions. Sturdy and free as a tree, I stand for 5 to 15 minutes between Mother Earth and Father Sky.
Afterwards, I withdraw my thoughts into my core. I release myself from the idea of being like a tree. In the process, I walk around a little, bend and stretch ... and yawn extensively. Then, it's time to make physical contact with a tree.
No need to feel you're not up to this. Everyone can do it. Trees which are at least 85 years old - in other words, which have survived for over 3 generations -, radiate out and have the effect of opening up the human organism. It is important to quietly and casually embrace one another, or simply stand close by and gaze upon them.
The season and time of day are unimportant. It is only your interest and desire which are essential. It is a means of receiving new impulses and alleviating problems which have become entrenched. Once you have begun these tree experiences, you undergo an inner awakening - you become alarmed and even somewhat unsettled. Forces which are impacting your life may push to the fore. It is time to rely on the helping powers of our creator.
Each tree meditation is a profound form of prayer. May the Lord bless you and keep you...
and may He give you the power to continue the work in progress which we all represent.
